Season 2 - Goals, Goals and Goals

Fantashtico's first pre-season is notable for 2 reasons. Firstly, in failing to pick up any particularly outstanding talents for the Foggia squad, apart from the ridiculously young and slightly crap looking Javier Mascherano, and secondly for Germany's surprise victory over France in the World Cup final.

The events of season 2 follow a remarkably similar pattern to that of the preceding season. Foggia fall at the second hurdle in the Serie C Cup again and also stroll to a comprehensive league success. Less points this time, but an astounding 104 goals scored, split mostly again between Paiva, Adolfo and player of the year (again) Collins, who alone scored 34 and averaged over 8.

A particularly impressive run of goal scoring form came in early 2003 with 36 goals scored in 8 games. At the end of the season came the least lucrative trophy ever - the Italian Serie C1 Super Cup. An outstanding game ensued against the winners of Serie C1A - Pisa, with Foggia emerging with a 4-3 extra-time victory.

In terms of player development, the 2 American centre-backs Onyewu and Akwari begin to show signs of genuine class as the coaching improvements make an impact. So, to Serie B and the first challenging season...
