Season 3 - Form is temporary, class is permanent?

Aaah, season 3. Always the bain of a Serie C2 start-up. The first 2 seasons are easy, the step-up to Serie B is tougher. And yet amazingly, 9 games in and I'm top of the league, incredible and the boys are playing superbly.

In an effort to add a bit of class to the squad I have signed 3 players from Serie A and a goalie from La Liga. The goalie does alright, but the only real success from these signings is Inacio Pia from Atalanta. A promising Spanish right winger called Juan Jose Marin is bought in on a free transfer and does sterling work for the reserves.

Anyway, then comes perhaps my worst run of form ever and I collapse to 11th. 352 isn't working, I'm leaking goals like a colinder leaks water after a direct hand grenade hit. A number of different formations fail until I remember a classic Fantashtico formation from back in the day. Take a striker out of 352 and stick in a defensive midfielder. 31411 - sounds boring, and is. But it gets us back on track and after about 10 games, with confidence restored, a triumphant return to 352 is made.

Despite an appalling 7-3 home reverse to arch rivals Bari, results on the whole significantly improve and a final position of 5th is achieved. A few points shy of promotion, but a respectable season nonetheless. And with good form restored, I am confident of a promotion push next season.

Sant'Anastasia update: They got back into Serie C2C! But another 17th postion finish seems them bow out again at the end of the season.

Italy bag Euro 2004, defeating Holland in the final in Portugal.
